Fritz of Fritz Frames takes pride in producing his frames to the highest quality standards. Each individual frame is carefully crafted for a total of 10 hours from locally sourced timbers and composite materials. The frames are unique and beautiful. The material consist of up to 15 layers of wood and fibers, fused together under high temperature and pressure. Timbers are either kept natural or hand dyed in his workshop on the Sunshine Coast.
Fritz’s impeccably refined finishing techniques involve the application of a hardened, protective clear coat and the meticulous process of hand sanding. The result is an ultra smooth frame offering unsurpassed comfort and an ability to withstand the harshest of elements, including water, sunscreen, make-up etc, for everyday wear.
Fritz was born and raised in Germany on Rugen Island in the Baltic Sea. He’s a wooden boat builder by trade & has worked on sailing yachts for many years as well as designing and making a great number of objects from furniture to kite-boards.
The method Fritz uses to create each handcrafted frame originates from the traditions of wooden yacht building. In homage to this traditional craft, most of our frames are named after the yacht’s “engines”, the winds that blow around our globe.
Fritz finds making glasses appealing and challenging on many levels. A craftsman and inventor as well as entrepreneur and designer, it’s an ever-evolving process, always discovering new insight into his self-made craft. Fritz says, “Creating glasses enriches my life with beauty and meaning, two of life’s essential rewards”.
The Fritz frames are $889, or for $100 extra you can get any frame custom made by Fritz himself, using any of his styles, with any material, finish and colour. The custom glasses will have your name and phone number imprinted on the inside to show they have been created individually for you.
